The Night She Disappeared by Lisa Jewell

Synopsis: (Amazon link)

On a beautiful summer night in a charming English suburb, a young woman and her boyfriend disappear after partying at the massive country estate of a new college friend.

One year later, a writer moves into a cottage on the edge of the woods that border the same estate. Known locally as the Dark Place, the dense forest is the writer’s favorite place for long walks and it’s on one such walk that she stumbles upon a mysterious note that simply reads, “DIG HERE.”

Could this be a clue towards what has happened to the missing young couple? And what exactly is buried in this haunted ground?

Last fall, I bought this book for my mom who was battling Stage 4 cancer. She read it and told me it was great. I placed it back on my bookcase and didn’t think much about it. Then, a few weeks ago, my daughter grabbed it and read it in two days. She said it was great (except for a few parts).

This past week, my state has been hit with several severe thunderstorms (straight line winds and tornados). We just got electricity back after three days being without (which is pretty rough when you live in the hot and humid South…while also being in a heat advisory). Anyway, I had just started this book when the storms hit. Thankful my Kindle was charged because all I did during that time was read. What is hilarious is I had randomly checked out this book through Libby before realizing it was actually the book my daughter had read a few weeks before (I knew it was a Lisa Jewell book but couldn’t remember which one).

Did I like this book? Yes…it was a typical “Lisa Jewell” page-turner. Now, I did not like the sexual aspects of the book (not as bad as I am sure in other books y’all read but I can do without). This was actually the aspect my daughter said she didn’t like. I am not sure why authors can’t leave that junk out. Anyway, the plot and mystery was well done. I don’t think you will be disappointed if you like mysteries or thrillers. So…Happy Reading!!!!

P.S. I decided to create a page for books I do not have time to blog about. Feel free to check it out – link.
