Ward D by Freida McFadden

Synopsis:

Medical student Amy Brenner is spending the night on a locked psychiatric ward.

Amy has been dreading her evening working on Ward D, the hospital’s inpatient mental health unit. There are very specific reasons why she never wanted to do this required overnight rotation. Reasons nobody can ever find out.

And as the hours tick by, Amy grows increasingly convinced something terrible is happening within these tightly secured walls. When patients and staff start to vanish without a trace, it becomes clear that everyone on the unit is in grave danger.

Amy’s worst nightmare was spending the night on Ward D.

And now she might never escape.

If you scroll through my previous blog posts, you know I am HUGE Freida McFadden fan. I had pre-ordered this book and was eagerly awaiting its release. However, my mother passed away after about a 10 month battle with Stage 4 bladder cancer. The desire to read and blog just wasn’t there (side note: if you know anyone who wants to use the drug Keytruda, please advise them not to unless they do much research…my mom went from limited cancer spots and functional to widespread cancer and non-functional, all within three months/three treatments of this drug…each treatment $84,000…she passed shortly after her third treatment…just don’t use this drug…).

School is winding down for me. Although I didn’t want to read, I made myself pick up this book. At some point, I need to start back reading. So, did I like her new release?

YES and NO…

Yes – I read it in two days which indicates it is still a page turner. I love easy reads that do not bog you down with tiny details and subplots.

No – It didn’t have the same level of “whoa” that her other books have. I really liked the psych ward feel; however, a few of her other books are still my favorites (The Ex, Do Not Disturb).

If you are a Freida fan, by all means read this book. Even if you are not a Freida fan or have never read any of her books, I still think you need to read this book. However, I would read Do Not Disturb or The Ex first before reading this book. The Housemaid and The Housemaid’s Secret are great too. I don’t think this book will be a great “first read” for someone.

Anyhoo…Happy Reading!
