Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

First, I’ll say that I actually listened to this as an audio book. I DO NOT like audio books. However, I downloaded this version through Hoopla, and it was FANTASTIC! It was done by GraphicAudio. This audio was basically a dramatization of the book (different people, sounds, music). I literally was able to listen to it and stay engaged the entire drive to and from New Orleans. I tried to listen to Book 2 but a different version and it just isn’t happening…at all!!!!! And I don’t have time to read 884 pages of a novel so…I will have to wait until GraphicAudio releases Book 2 – Iron Flame – this April.

So…now that I got that out of the way… did I like this book? Surprisingly yes. It was a book club book that I DIDN’T READ because I thought the book was going to be too heavy on the “sci-fi.” Although there was a little crude stuff in the book, it was not what I thought it was going to be. One site said “steamy sex” but either that was not included in my audio version or I must have been driving in heavier traffic and not paying attention. Supposedly there is a sex scene that literally starts a fire. LOL. Y’all…I am not lying…I literally do not remember listening to the part! LOL

I loved the Hunger Games series and Divergent (well, Divergent and Insurgent). This book is a mix of those book series with a sprinkle of Harry Potter. Add some dragons and you have Fourth Wing. What I find interesting is Rebecca Yarros. She is one amazing wife and mother who is rearing six children while also writing books. She came from a military family whose husband was also full time military (now retired). How she came to write is a fascinating story (link).

Happy Reading!
