Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell

Due to my abundance in zucchini (courgette), I am trying new recipes every day.  This recipe is incredibly delicious!  Like, I am making some more tomorrow (recipe link).  The only substitution I made was the flour.  I ran out of all purpose flour so used self-rising (omitted the baking powder).  Also, I have had a food processor for years but never used it to shred (I know, I know… just used it to make dough).  I do think the zucchini (oops, sorry…courgette), shredded by the food processor, made this recipe much better than doing it with a grater.

squash and zucchini

more zucchini

shredded the zucchini then cut the butter into the flour

so, so good!!!!!

 Now for the book…

Synopsis:

Ellie Mack was the perfect daughter. She was fifteen, the youngest of three. Beloved by her parents, friends, and teachers, and half of a teenaged golden couple. Ellie was days away from an idyllic post-exams summer vacation, with her whole life ahead of her.

And then she was gone.

Now, her mother Laurel Mack is trying to put her life back together. It’s been ten years since her daughter disappeared, seven years since her marriage ended, and only months since the last clue in Ellie’s case was unearthed. So when she meets an unexpectedly charming man in a café, no one is more surprised than Laurel at how quickly their flirtation develops into something deeper. Before she knows it, she’s meeting Floyd’s daughters—and his youngest, Poppy, takes Laurel’s breath away.

Because looking at Poppy is like looking at Ellie. And now, the unanswered questions she’s tried so hard to put to rest begin to haunt Laurel anew. Where did Ellie go? Did she really run away from home, as the police have long suspected, or was there a more sinister reason for her disappearance? Who is Floyd, really? And why does his daughter remind Laurel so viscerally of her own missing girl?

My previous blog post was my first Lisa Jewell book – The FamilyUpstairs.  A friend told me about this particular book a few weeks (month?) ago.  I usually do not read two books by same author back to back. I did with this one and WOW!  Loved it!!!!  The”plot twist” may seem a little bazaar to some, but I thought it was different and interesting.  And maybe I have watched enough crime shows to know there are lots of “wackadoodles” out there!

There isn’t much for me to write without giving away spoilers.  But…if you want a great, quick, easy read, then go buy this book!!!  Happy Reading…and go make those zucchini and thyme scones!!!!
