The Woman in the Window: A Novel and King Cake in a Bread Machine

I know what you are saying?  King Cake in a bread machine?  Why, yes!  And…king cake also doesn’t have anything to do with the setting of the book (NYC) but oh well.  I came across this recipe either last year or the year before.  It is so simple and easy.  I think you could probably use it to make cinnamon rolls.  The sour cream just adds an incredible touch to it.  I would have used more pecans but one of my daughters thought it was a grand idea to put the near-empty pecan bag back into the freezer. Sigh…that is for another blog post.

One piece of advice when cooking the king cake… if your king cake is smaller and thicker, you will have to cook it a little longer than the stated time.  I had mine all decorated and ready to go (above picture) then cut into it.  I chose not to take a picture of the gooey mess that resulted after having to cook it more. Sigh… oh, and don’t look at my “sprinkling the sugar” skills because I could honestly care less (that sugar gets everywhere).

To the book…

First, DO NOT watch the movie on Netflix thinking it is this book…the one called The Girl in the House Across the Street From the Girl in the Window (I totally had to look that up).  After reading the book, I was going to watch what I thought was the movie about this book (apparently I just saw “The Girl in the Window” part) only to cut it off after a few minutes.  I thought “if Netflix jacks up a book this badly, I am not watching it!” Later, I found out from my teacher friend, who recommended the book, that the Netflix movie was a spoof. 😆 Now, I do think there is a movie called The Woman in the Window (but you know the book is always better than the movie).

I thought this was a good thriller to read!  It was a quick, easy read.  It basically is about a lady who has agoraphobia (anxieties about leaving the house).  In her house, she witnesses what she thinks is a crime only to be called “irrational” by everyone (she didn’t see what she thought she saw).  Sprinkled in with the mystery is the reason for this “sudden onset” of agoraphobia.

I will not give away any spoilers, but I totally figured out the ending!  Yay me! I love the movie Primal Fear, so I kept coming back to it while I read…but no more.

Happy Reading!
