The Wife Upstairs by Freida McFadden

Synopsis:

Victoria Barnett has it all.

A great career as a nurse practitioner. A handsome and loving husband. A beautiful home in the suburbs and a plan to fill it with children. Life is perfect—or so it seems.

Then she’s in a terrible accident… and everything falls apart.

Now Victoria is unable to walk. She can’t feed or dress herself. She can’t even speak. She is confined to the top floor of her house with twenty-four-hour care.

Sylvia Robinson is hired by Victoria’s husband to help care for her. But it turns out Victoria isn’t as impaired as Sylvia was led to believe. There’s a story Victoria desperately wants to tell… if only she could get out the words.

Then Sylvia discovers Victoria’s diary hidden away in a drawer.

And what’s inside is shocking.

It’s been a week since I finished the book…a book I started on a Friday and finished on a Saturday. There really isn’t much to say about the book if you have read my previous posts. I am a huge Freida McFadden fan. There has yet to be one book I have not loved. This one is no different (did you read the part where I read in two days?). Now, I had heard this book was similar to Verity. I chose not to read Verity when it was a book club book. I had read some reviews concerning sexually explicit scenes. So, when I heard this one was similar, I couldn’t wait to read it since McFadden’s books are clean (and she is a favorite of mine). This book definitely had a “Jane Eyre” feel but updated with a modern twist.

This was a book my 16 year old daughter had actually read before me. I refused to tell her my guesses until towards the end. Although I was close, I still didn’t figure it out.

Now…I am not sure if anyone knew this but there is another The Wife Upstairs book I had read about a year ago. This book is by Rachel Hawkins (click for my blog post). I liked this one as well but no where near as much as McFadden’s book. Hawkin’s book still had the same “Jane Eyre” feel but included some of the names from the actual novel.

Right now, I am reading John Grisham’s The Boys from Biloxi so hopefully my next post will be something unique. As long as I am reading McFadden’s books, there isn’t much I can say except GO READ THE BOOK! Happy Reading!
