The Fury by Alex Michaelides

Synopsis:

This is a tale of murder.

Or maybe that’s not quite true. At its heart, it’s a love story, isn’t it?

Lana Farrar is a reclusive ex–movie star and one of the most famous women in the world. Every year, she invites her closest friends to escape the English weather and spend Easter on her idyllic private Greek island.

I tell you this because you may think you know this story. You probably read about it at the time ― it caused a real stir in the tabloids, if you remember. It had all the necessary ingredients for a press sensation: a celebrity; a private island cut off by the wind…and a murder.

We found ourselves trapped there overnight. Our old friendships concealed hatred and a desire for revenge. What followed was a game of cat and mouse ― a battle of wits, full of twists and turns, building to an unforgettable climax. The night ended in violence and death, as one of us was found murdered.

But who am I?

My name is Elliot Chase, and I’m going to tell you a story unlike any you’ve ever heard.

I have been wanting to read his other books since I read The Silent Patient. I loved The Silent Patient but do know some who did not like it. I finally was able to get to this book. It was a weird book but for some reason I liked it. I didn’t LOVE it but glad I read it. There are always twists and turns with you never really knowing what the truth is. I will say this…there was one part of the book, when Elliot Chase reflects on his past, that seemed to be a little drawn out which bogged me down. You have to know that part, though, to understand how everything comes together.

I did not know this until I looked up some reviews on the book after reading it. This is not a spoiler so no worries. Also, I will say this totally went over my head. I never made the connection, possibly because I read The Silent Patient so long ago I didn’t remember the characters in the book. There is one character in The Silent Patient that is also in The Fury – Mariana. I will not tell you when you will see her name in the book but wanted to let you know in case you are like me. I have not read The Maidens yet but read there are some connections there as well.

If you liked The Silent Patient and like his writing style, with twists and turns…then read this book. I think you will enjoy the “not knowing.” I think you will have no regrets reading it.

Happy Reading!
