The Favorite Girl by Monica Arya

Ok, so normally I would include the synopsis at the beginning of the post; however, I am going to go straight into my thoughts.

No. Just no! Do not read this book! How in the world it received raved reviews on Amazon is beyond me. Here are my thoughts (and I am keeping this post short).

First, the author gave a trigger warning at the beginning of the novel. However, she DID NOT include the actual topic that would be problematic for readers. She just mentioned a warning that it could be a lot for readers (not exactly those words but you get the point). She absolutely should have included the issue that is the basis of this book – human trafficking and rape! Some people may not be bothered by those topics but some may be. I went into this book thinking it was just going to be kidnapping…or a horror story/ghosts. So I will say what she should have said…do not read this book if graphic rape scenes and the concept of human trafficking is too much for you.

Second, someone has to be demented to write something like this. It was just too much. I do think the issue of human trafficking should be addressed but maybe in the way Taken (the movie) did it.

I really don’t know what else to say but no. Just no.

Happy Reading…(but not this book)!
