Southern Living The Official SEC Tailgating Cookbook: Great Food Legendary Teams Cherished Traditions

After my husband and I got engaged, there were only two wedding “seasons”/dates that were off limits: hunting season and football season! To this day, he refuses to attend a wedding during the fall. In all honestly, though, why would any Southerner set their wedding dates during those times (only the two most “looking forward” time periods in the South).

Anyone who loves to cook and loves SEC football would love this cookbook. I have the older version but here is the link to the newer version. This is a fun cookbook that gives you stories and insights into each SEC team’s hometown. You also get a menu you can use at a tailgating event. The recipes are easy to make and includes ingredients that are not weird or crazy.

I cooked the Cowboy Nachos this past week. It was something different than the usual tacos/taco salads. I did choose to substitute “packaged” pulled pork instead of cooking a brisket or my own pulled pork (I normally do my own pulled pork but Boston butts were not on sale and didn’t need much).

Here is the Brunswick stew I tried. I tried to find a brisket but couldn’t find any at the grocery store (and I wasn’t traveling all over to find one). I read you could substitute a roast for the brisket, so that is what I did. I cooked the roast in the crockpot then finished the soup when I got in from school. It was good and edible; however, I think the brisket (or maybe pulled pork) would have been much better than the roast.

Christmas is just right around the corner. If you are needing a great gift idea for someone who loves football and loves to cook, try out this cookbook. Hail State!
