This is the last book in the Road to Perdition trilogy. Michael O’Sullivan (main character in the book) is Irish. Therefore, I decided to go with an Irish recipe (colcannon). It is basically mashed potatoes with bacon, onion, and cabbage. Cabbage, an inexpensive and healthy vegetable, was used a lot in Ireland (from what I have read). Cabbage is also part of the Southern New Year’s Day meal to bring good luck in the new year. So, as you can see, with hog jowls, black eyed peas, cabbage, and colcannon, I am praying for some of that Irish good luck in the year 2021!
For the book…
There isn’t much to say about the book except that I loved it! Now, I have not read Road to Perdition (only have seen the movie). My goal is to find the graphic novel (the original) and read it. The next two books, though, that pick up where Road to Perdition leaves off, are incredible. Now, if you are not into the gangster/mob history, you may not enjoy these books. However, although Michael O’Sullivan is a fictional character, the rest (places, events, people) is basically true. You can learn a lot about the history of this time period. In this book, you have a glimpse into the CIA/mob history and Cal-Neva (a place that was big during the Frank Sinatra days).
I am sort of sad that this ends the trilogy; however, I am looking forward to reading more of his novels. Here’s to 2021!!!!!
