One by One by Freida McFadden

This past Wednesday, I introduced my 16-year old to a Freida McFadden book – The Housemaid. It took some convincing to get her to read it. However, I think her reading the entire book in one day is proof that I officially have another “Freida Readah”! I told her my favorite is Do Not Disturb, but she needed to watch Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho to really understand the setting. So, the next morning, we watched Psycho together. By the end of Friday, she had finished Do Not Disturb. Two “Freida” books in three days…

Many reasons why I like “Freida” books. 1) The bad language is at a minimum. 2) I haven’t read a book yet that included sexually explicit scenes. 3) She is in-tuned with her readers. I love being part of her Facebook page where she interacts with readers (and it is her, not a paid “ghost.”). 4) The books are page-turners that keeps you reading and engaged. 5) She demonstrates that you can have the best of both worlds – a full time job in the medical field and a writer…it isn’t one or the other.

So, let’s talk One by One… Synopsis:

A night spent sleeping on dirt and leaves is not how Claire Matchett expected to spend her vacation.

She thought this would be a break from the stresses of work and raising her young children. A chance to repair her damaged marriage. A week of hiking and hot tubs with two other couple friends. It sounded like heaven.

Then Claire’s minivan breaks down on a lonely dirt road. With no cell reception, the group has no choice but to hike the rest of the way to their hotel. But it turns out the woods aren’t as easy to navigate as they thought.

Hours later, they are lost. Hopelessly lost.

And as they navigate deeper into the woods, the members of their party are struck down mysteriously one by one. Has a wild animal been hunting them? Or is the hunter one of them?

But as more time passes, one thing becomes clear:

Only one of them will return home alive.

My thoughts… This was not one of my favorite “Freida” books but still had the same “do what?!?!?!” aspect, especially at the very, very end. There were many twists and turns like her other books. Regardless if this is your first book or not, you will not be disappointed!

As 2022 comes to an end, I wish everyone a Happy New Year! Now, get reading…
